As Scotland prepares for the transition to electric vehicles, access to reliable charging infrastructure is becoming increasingly important. For communities, businesses and landowners in rural and island areas, where public charging options can be limited, having local charge points can make switching to electric vehicles far more practical.
Businesses and landowners in rural and island areas of Scotland can now access funding to install public electric vehicle (EV) charge points through the Rural and Island Infrastructure Fund. Funded by Transport Scotland, the scheme aims to improve charging infrastructure in locations that are less likely to attract private investment.
The fund supports the installation of publicly accessible charge points and offers grants based on charger type and power output. Innovative projects that combine EV charging with battery storage or solar PV may be eligible for up to £300,000 in funding.
Funding is available to eligible landowning businesses and charge point operators in Scottish island locations and selected rural postcode areas. All funded charge points must be publicly accessible and meet current charging regulations.
