An example of interview task and questions for Community Action Planning commissioning. This guidance was developed and written by Foundation Scotland. It was commissioned by the Scottish Government and Energy Saving Trust, produced by Local Energy Scotland. It’s part of the Community Benefits Toolkit.

Pre-interview task

Prepare a presentation that describes how you will plan and undertake the community consultation and planning work required in the Invitation to Tender.

Your presentation should last no more than 15 minutes.

We will not have projector facilities at the interview nor can we confirm exactly how many community representatives will be at your interview. Please come with up to 8 copies of your presentation.

Panel questions

1.    Who will the consultancy team be? Please confirm which individuals will be delivering the consultation work, their key relevant skills and experience.

2.    What makes your approach different or unique?

3.    What are the key characteristics of our community and can you give examples of similar communities that you have worked with, how you have done so, and the headline outcomes of that work?

4.    How will you ensure the consultation is inclusive? For example, young people aged 11-25, single mothers, people with long-term disabling conditions and, critically, those who don’t want change?

5.    How do you help us go beyond our comfortable boundaries to generate one or more “big ideas” (transformative projects)?

6.    What are some of key things you’ve learnt about doing this work well? What tends to help ensure the process works well?

7.    What in your experience are some of the pitfalls of trying to do this work well, and how do you try and avoid those?

8.    What do you anticipate might be some of the challenges/opportunities for this work in our community?

9.    Can you give examples (at least two) of some of the practical changes brought about through community plans you have worked on?
